new Mac mini on March 7th?

I think the problem is that there are no new chips to put into a new one available at the moment.

As far as I can remember, Apple hasn't introduced a new iOS product and an OSX product at the same time. Probably won't do it again either, if anything else due to the strain that it would put on their distribution network.
I expect Apple to stretch out the mid-2011 mini life cycle almost two years. It's a screamer, and other than processor bump, there is no reason to put last year's mini to bed just yet..
Doubt that. There's always people willing to upgrade to new models. After a while some buyers put away their cash and wait for the next model whenever that comes. I expect new models maybe a few months or so after the MBPs get updated (depends on availability of suitable Ivy Bridge chips as well).
I agree that the 2011 Mini is fast. However provided suitable Ivy Bridge chips can be found I expect Apple will release an updated model (possibly even alongside Mountain Lion).
I wouldn't be suprised if the Mini is going to use the same Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge processors for several years just like the previous Minis used the same Penryns for years.

It's true that my mini server i7 is sufficient for any task I ask of it, (I game PS3) but I doubt that Apple is concerned with getting better graphics in the mini, that's what an iMac is for.. Apple will update it when all the other macs have such awesome chips and graphix that we're complaining about having been left out with nothing but sandy bridge chips in the mini. Which three years ago were a tekkie's fantasy wet dream. There first, must be eight months of threads dedicated to "Apple Discontinuing the Mini", then a decent update.
And we saw what March 7 brought.. iPad 3.
The Server Mini sucks at being a server. I would love the return of the "classic" Mini form factor if you could make use of the extra space and throw a couple of 3 inch drives in there or at the least 2 Thunderbolt ports and 2 Firewire 800 ports.
Right now without external storage the most the Mini Server can take is two 1TB 5400 drives.
True, but those of us "forward looking" folks will have plenty of thunderbolt storage for our mini at affordable pricing within the year..
