I bought a mid level 2014 mac mini as I had one in the past and thought I'd try a mac out again.
I'm trying to make sure I have this all figured out with what I want to do.
I bought an SSD USB enclosure recommended from this forum. I"m buying a 256 GB SSD which is more than enough for the O/S and all the apps I want to run. My Windows computer has lots more programs than I will run on the mac mini and it only uses 175 GBs of its SSD. I have a 500GB external HD with photos and videos.
I am going to copy everything over to the SSD. Should I also copy over the personal folder, which I'm not sure what that is at the moment.
Then, I'm going to make two partitions on the 1TB internal drive. 1 is for the O/S in case my SSD dies. The other is for all my photos and videos and anything else from the external drive. Only about 120GB's right now.
Then, I will buy a 1.5 TB external and use that for Time Machine.
I assume if the SSD dies, I can then boot off the internal, throw a new SSD in the enclosure, run time machine to get everything back on the SSD?
When I buy new apps and download them, when the screen pops up to install the program into the applications folder, is that folder automatically on the SSD or will it try to install programs on the internal drive?
Also, is airplay from the mini to an Apple TV lag and stutter free? I was going to buy a Roku but since I have the mini, might get the A.T.V. instead.
Thanks for any help.
