New Mac Pro... Crossfire?

Just out of curiosity...

Is the new Mac Pro actually going to support Crossfire?

Or is it just two separate GPUs? How does one assign a Thunderbolt port to either in that case?

Not likely under OS X. OS X has never supported SLI or Crossfire. Try under Windows. Usually in bootcamp, you can support crossfire.

I'm aware OS X doesn't support it.

I'm just wondering why they're including dual GPUs. OpenCL is nice and all, but not many things take advantage of it. It's almost as if they included two just to shut up anyone who might try to use that as an excuse to complain about the lack of two PCI-e 16x slots (which you wouldn't use for anything else).

Do we know if 10.9 supports Crossfire?

Even if Crossfire itself isn't supported, I am sure that we will see both GPUs used for OpenCL calculations. They would not include two cards just for a giggle.

No mention was made it does.. I assume like all the other cats, this one does not either.. Apple isn't interested in gaming on the Mac Pro.. Bootcamp into Windows for gaming and even that isn't enough.. a gaming PC or console is where extreme gaming is, not the Mac.. Never was and never will.

I bet you 10.9 will include some sort of multiple GPU management

Since the box ships with 2 GPUs in default configuration I'm pretty sure both cards can be used simultaneously.

It is possible but I doubt it. If they were going to have crossfire abilities, that would be another positive selling point. I think it would have probably been mentioned. OTOH, it could be something they're looking into as a possibility but not ready to commit to just yet. Either way, I don't think it will happen in 10.9, simply because it wasn't even vaguely hinted at.

MOST Pro users don't game so much (I think), but who knows...

BTW... You know, the iPad has some REALLY impressive games now. If developers can make such nice fast games for this low powered platform, you'd think they could make OSX games with all the same bells and whistles that Windows gamers have. Damned DirectX...
