Hey all,

I doubt this one myself, but I have it from a pretty decent source that new Mac Pros are coming in the next couple of weeks.

Seems odd to me as well, especially since they just announced the 8-core, but I wanted to post it nonetheless.

Take it with a grain of salt. No details other than it might be the redesign people have wondered about.

I want this to be true.. really a Graphics card refresh on the MP's would have closed the deal for me and i would of bought by now.

Interesting. That would be great news for me, personally. Thanks for sharing, even if may not be 100%.

Well to be honest it seems silly to put in x1950xt when the x2k series is around the corner, but then what does a Mac need with such crazy horse power? though then that question would remain for 8 cores. Even still I can see why Apple will remain to wait it out for the new Radeon cards.

Hey all,

how good of a source are we talking? any prior predictions w/ proven accuracy?

i would love this to be true, just seems like an impossibility following a very recent refresh. now, if they meant an update to imac, mini, mbp.... then i would more readily follow this prediction.

I make a living doing 3d, and dabble with video editing, so ill take the most powerful video card i can get.. the 8800 (and quardo4600,5600) is orders of magnitude more powerful than the 1900 and Quadro 4500.. and The R600 (ati x2k series) more powerful still. So id love to see something offered from the g80, or r600 camp. A graphics card offered from apple that is under 16 months old!

Ack we need more NVidias! Screw ATI!

I say this as an owner of an x1900.

NVidia is beating the pants off ATI right now. Apple has the fastest desktop in the world with video cards released in JANUARY OF 2006!!

lame.

You make it sound like you know that Apple keeps up on new graphic card releases. They never do. Usually they miss a generation or two. I mind when they had the 6800 Ultra's and X800XT's yet the X850XT wasn't far off but that was only avilable for BTO iirc which was short supply, people had to opt for the 6800's or X800XT and then they came out with the X1800XT. Before Apple got the next one it was the X1900XT's, though they did use one up from NVIDIA which was the 7800GT in the Quad G5 but it wasn't the state of the art card which was the GTX version. Lots of complaints about that 7800GT in the Quad's for the stock heatsink/fan.

I have a feeling with the release of the new nVidia cards (8600 and 8500 series) I would be willing to bet there will be a new video card selection soon. I am waiting for a major rev of a MacPro before I get one. I was burnt on my 17" MBP when a week later the C2Ds were released. I would not be the least bit surprised if there were some type of rev of the MacPros at WWDC.

This is speculation though. With the keynote being increased to 3 hours I am sure there are some hardware updates and pray there is a good rev to the MacPro or atleast a price drop.

Just to keep things clear, this 3 hour deal has been declared an error by Apple, and they corrected it to the actual, and more reasonable 90 minutes.

I must have missed that. Damn, well there goes that theory. Sorry about that.

I doubt we'll see an update until the fall at least. New Intel Xeon chips and the Intel Seaburg chipset are all due in the second half of 2007. Likely we'll see everything else (laptops, iMac, Mac Mini) updated before the Mac Pros get another update.
