New Mac Pro + iTunes Library Question

Hi everyone. Just had a quick question.

I should be receiving my brand new (and first!) Mac Pro within the next week.

I would like to setup my Mac Pro so that my boot drive contains all of my music on iTunes. However, I'd like to have my movies on my 2nd HD (not on the boot drive) so I don't have to store music + movies on the same drive, as it won't be enough room.

I'd like to be able to play my music and movies using iTunes. Is there a way for me to do that, even though my movies will be on another drive?

First time Mac Pro user.

Just tell iTunes not to copy into your library on import (These settings are in iTunes Preferences > Advanced) - and then import the folder on your second hard-drive containing your movies separately - then iTunes wont copy them across and they'll remain on the second HDD

When I import my movies to iTunes after turning off 'copy upon import', do I drag and drop the movies from my 2nd HD into iTunes or do I just go File->Add to Library and select the file containing all of my movies?

Either one will work just fine, if you've set copy files on import, off, it won't move the original media files. Although I'm unsure what iTunes does with itself if you allow it to "Keep iTunes media folder organized". You may wanna test your settings with a single file, see what happens, and proceed from there.

That would most likely be your best bet.

"Keep iTunes media folder organized" should only affect new imports. If you want to actually copy files scattered on other drives into your main library drive, you actually need to run the command 'Consolidate Files' under 'Organize Library'.
