Just setup my new Mac Pro. I am not getting any sound out to my external speakers. I just used my exsisting mini-jack cable. The internal speaker works, and I don't have anything nearby to check the optical. But its lit-up so I assume it works.

Is there some special format of mini-jack plug you need?

Well nevermind. I did all the updates and the firmware update and now it works just fine.

Actually I tried that with no luck.

But like I said, for whatever reason, after the firmware update everything is working just fine.

yeah I had some weird problems with analog sound output so I plugged my speakers into the front headphone jack.

On bootup, it still plays the tone through the internal speakers, but after that it functions as predicted. At least when I'm listening to music at high volume on my headphones, I don't have to worry about the mac pro's speaker singing along :)
