New mac pro only showing 24hz via 4k, not 60hz?

Hi there everyone. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this problem. I know that my current setup will support 4k @ 60hz but currently (according to 'about this mac') my 2016 LG 4k OLED tv is only running at 24hz @ 4k resolution. I mainly purchased this mac pro (2013 model, 64gb ram, d700 video card) because of the 4k @ 60hz support. I am coming from a mac mini that ran @ 60hz via 1080p and the difference in smoothness is extremely noticeable.



I can't seem to find a way to change the refresh rate in the settings. Can someone help me out here? The help would be extremely welcomed!

Are you connecting via HDMI? If so, that's the only refresh rate supported: to get 60hz you need to connect to a monitor that supports DisplayPort and connect via one of the DisplayPort / thunderbolt sockets

The nMP can display 4K 60Hz only via the dp (thunderbolt port). It support 4K 60Hz doesn't mean that can be displayed via any port (e.g. HDMI).

However, I guess your TV only has HDMI input. So, an adaptor is a MUST in your case.

Also, from memory, you need an active adaptor to make it work.

Without adaptor, the Mac may detect your TV's max resolution as 4096x2160 (even though the actual resolution is 3840x2160, but your TV may able to accept 4096x2160 signal), and only 24Hz avail via HDMI 1.4 under this resolution.

I appreciate your help. I just ordered a few minidisplay port to HDMI adapters from amazon so hopefully that works to solve my problem. I'm assuming thats what youre getting at with your last message.

You'll need an active DP1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter. All other adapters won't work.

Thanks for the recommendation, I ordered and can confirm I now have 60hz working on my 2013 with HiDPI.
