I have been a Mac Pro owner for nearly a decade now starting with the Quicksilver Mac (then to the Mac Pro 2.66 quad and the Mac Pro Westmere Octo).

I now am an owner of the 2013 cylinder new Mac Pro with six cores and the D500 cards.

The new Mac Pro is quick, with all apps. I do some video editing and it is nice to see the computer being so responsive to everything. Also, the native thunderbolt is great. I have connected the Mac Pro with my laptop with the thunderbolt bridge and the files (large multi gigabyte) move very fast.

It is pricey for the horsepower and storage. I had to buy a Lacie 5Big to house my previous incorporated storage.

However, in total, the new Mac Pro is an upgrade from the Westmere.

What display(s) are you running?

I've been using iMacs for years now, and am glad I made the jump the trashcan recently!
The 2012 iMac was a power horse itself, but the nMP saves me actual time during my daily work. For example I recently had to translate and encode two 30minute films to nine different languages and make dvds of it. All those transcodes, scaling operations and stuff went soooo fast with the new machine. One mpeg2 for dvd from a full HD 30 minute source goes through media encoder in 3 minutes using openCL. That has been a big time saver in the last three weeks!

Plus when I have to go on a job to my local ad agency, I can just carry the nMP in a backpack and connect to a display and keyboard there, instead of having to work on a macbook. Great plus! :)

I'd love to buy the new Mac Pro butt as an impoverished college student it will probably be a while :p

Does the PCI based flash storage make a large difference to day-to-day usability? Is it immediately apparent during startup? I imagine it would only take 10 seconds to fully turn on!

Are you using a 4K display with it? That would be pretty amazing, especially for video editing.

I customized one on the Apple online store the other day and managed to customize one for $20,000! Haha
