The new Mac Mini M2 Pro with 32Gb/1TB costs more than $2200 now, more than the Mac Studio M1 Max with the same 32GB memory and 1TB storage.

I guess Mac Studio M2 Max may start at $2999, $1000 more expensive.

I'm not getting those numbers. When I go to the apple store online I get:

Mac Mini m2 Pro, 32gb, 1tb, $1899

Mac Studio m1 Max, 32gb, 1tb, $2199

I'm not sure why people keep using the 1TB storage as the baseline for the Mac Studio. The Baseline Mac Studio comes with 512Gb of storage.

MAC MINI - $1,999
  • M2 Pro 12‑core CPU, 19-core GPU
  • 32GB unified memory
  • 512GB SSD storage
MAC STUDIO - $1,999
  • M1 Max 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU
  • 32GB unified memory
  • 512GB SSD storage

The difference here is the MINI comes with 2 more efficiency cores and is on a newer generation. The Mac Studio still has 5 more GPU cores which we dont know yet how that compares. The Mac Studio has more ports, and the Max chip has a few other benefits over the Pro chip including more ProRes encoders.

The mini is clearly the better choice right now for 99% of users, but for a few people the baseline studio still makes sense. Of course the M1 Ultra is still Apples best chip which you can only get in the studio.

It depends where in the world. In the US the prices are the same. In Denmark some prices decreased. Here in Sweden the prices of MBP 14" and 16" increased by $500 due to the weak Swedish Crown so the new M2 Mac Studios will be more expensive too. Here Mac Mini M2 Pro 19c costs $300 more than the base M1 Mac Studio, $400 if you buy from other retailers. That's why I'm planning to buy the Studio which has 400GB/s memory bandwidth, 7.8 TFLOPS GPU and SD card reader instead of Mac Mini's 200GB/S and 6.8 TFLOPS.

I think due to all those variables and factors, the only real way to have this conversation is to compare USD prices over time. Apple sets those prices first, and then converts for international sales based on taxes, exchange rates, etc. so it's hard to predict international prices.

Yes but huge price increases are a fact outside the US in many countries, something that many seem to be unaware of.
