Hey guys, I realize there are several threads having to do with battery issues already. I have read them. I am a new Mac user (at least since Macintosh). My MBP 16/512 was delivered yesterday. I set it up, installed Chrome and Google Photos Backup and Sync, then did some web browsing. The battery drained faster than I expected. Today, I got home at 3:30. I did some web browsing and Youtube, again it seemed to drain quickly. I closed everything and let it sit idle with the screen on 50% brightness. It's been going through 1% every 7 minutes consistently since. Idling. I uninstalled Google Backup and Sync and no change. It's 8:07 here right now and I'M at 43%.

Considering it's new, the battery life is not going to be so great the first couple of days while the OS indexes everything. Give it a day or two and you should see some improvement. Also I would be highly suspect of Chrome. There's been lots of reports of it causing poor performance, battery drain, etc. even when it's not running. IMO Chrome is hot garbage and spyware.

Haha! I will give it a couple of days, but I love my Chrome. Could it possibly use much battery resource when it's closed?

Sorry, missed that. Will read now.
I'm not having issues with performance, just perceived battery drain. The machine is amazing. I find it hard to believe that the majority of YouTube reviewers that gush over that battery life wouldn’t at least have Chrome installed.

Why? Chrome is a memory and battery hog. There is not much to recommend it unless you are forced to use it. In the past, I used it in a VM when necessary to isolate from the rest of my system. Right now with the M1 MacBook Air, I don't know how to run a MacOS VM yet to that isn't an option though I can probably run it in Linux.

Battery drain is a symptom of something causing your computer to spend resources on something. Just because this computer is fast enough for you not to notice doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Delete Chrome and Keystone, reboot, see if battery performance improves.
