Well, you can legally get music through the iTunes music store, or by ripping CD's you own. There are some other ways, like Napster or the Yahoo program, but those seem to pale in comparison to iTunes.

As far as using Limewire just as a program by itself, it works fine on any Mac I've tried it on. But for P2P, I'd really just use bittorrent, it's so much faster.

When discussing bitorrent and P2P, be sure to keep it legal... public domain stuff, you know the drill.

otherwise, it'll get waste-landed instantly.

I have an old iMac that I've been runnng LimeWire on since 1999, never fried anything. Although I now use use iTunes to get my music, it's the first cheap way I could find to get the few songs that I want to buy.

There are some good bittorrent programs for Mac, especially Azureus. As far as downloading bittorrent files, any website that has them will work, they're not platform-specific. I won't recommend any specific site, though, because as mentioned above, many engage in non-legal trading of files.

There are no viruses that have been successfully done for OS X. OS 9, is a different story.

But, be careful, you know how it goes.

LimeWire is fine with OSX; been using it for about a year now with its pay turbocharged version. Though I use iTMS to legally download in support my fav. artists :)

SolarSeek

SoulseekX

Both of these enable you to connect to other Windows Soulseek users...

I think the notion of labelling P2P programs as illegal and whatnot is a bit silly though. So long as the thread doesnt explicitly say that he wants it for downloading illegal content, then it should be cool. I mean, DVD burners are OK to talk about arent they? And I know the biggest use of them isnt to backup your files.

I use limewire without any noticable problems. I've tried acquisition and poisoned but rarley find much with them and they are much slower with fewer results.
