Hello everyone,
I have a strange question, perhaps. I just purchased a new MacBook Air M1. I have wanted a MacBook Air for many years, but due to “life” circumstances (paying bills, rent etc. ) it just wasn’t possible. Now, with the new M1 (whether it turns out to be just hype or revolutionary) am really struggling with the question of do I keep it or returning it, since my work experience has been more with Windows. I find myself asking myself if getting a Windows machine for approximately $1000 would be wiser. I read somewhere that about 90% of businesses use Windows. I try to rationalize keeping the Air since I am on disability and may not ending up going back at age 58 though. Thanks for any recommendations.

I'm not sure I understand your concerns.

You can easily use a Mac at home and work on a Windows computer if necessary, many people do that. It would require you to be comfortable with switching between different OSes (different keyboard shortcuts, window controls, preinstalled software etc), but other than that it's not like you forget everything about Windows the second you touch a Mac. Just like you know how to use your phone (which doesn't run Windows) AND a Windows computer.

Use your new Air for a bit and if it makes you happy, keep it. What you use for your personal stuff is no one's business and an employer should always provide you a computer if they require you to use a particular setup.

To clarify, what I am asking is basically (by keeping the Air) are there things that I won’t be able to do if I have a Mac instead of a Windows computer? Thank you.

Of course. There are things Macs can do that Windows PCs can't, and vice versa. But without more information about your specific usage, you're not going to get much relevant advice.
