Hi, I am thinking of buying the new air. I've always used the MacBook Air in the past, until 2016 when I switched to the Pro (without touchbar). I'm pretty happy with the pro, but I really miss the extreme portability and battery life of the air.

I have an office job, but for my job I only use web-apps heavily. I usually have 2-3 chrome browsers open at the same time, with multiple tabs (usually 6-8), with web apps open... like gmail, google calendar, slack, salesforce, google sheet...

Now I want to switch to the new Air but I wonder how the CPU would handle my workload. Do you think I should be fine?

Thanks

I do the exact same as you if not more and my 2018 air handles it perfectly. So far, the fans haven't even spun up once in the time that I've had it. no slow downs either. And personally, I like the feel of the MacBook Air better than the no Touch Bar pro. the new butterfly 3 keyboard is noticeably better, its got Touch ID and the wedge shape makes it easier to pick up (for me anyway). I say go for it man

Gen 3 isn't amazing, given that there are reports of multiple failures with them - but it is going to hopefully be better than gen 2 (jury is still out on that one).

I hope they do extend it to 3rd gen but I agree I love the 2nd gen keyboard it is so amazing.
Yeah, Gen2 forever! There are two Gen3 in front of me and I realize that I like Gen2 more. People should conduct extended tests instead of blindly believing that G3 is better.

I prefer gen3 - for me it has a much more tactile feel than the previous gens and the noise is less harsh, but its one of those subjective things.

Some people have owned Gen 2 (e.g. me) who had to return it for a refund due to the keyboard becoming unusable within a month and I suspect many others like me who won't touch Gen 2 with a barge pole as a result. I am not even a heavy typist, I used to use cherry-mx red's, it doesn't get lighter than that!
