I have a new c2d macbook, and over the weekend, the battery decided to start shapeshifting and now sits a little swollen on the front right corner. Apple is sending a new battery in the hopes that it's just the battery casing and not the macbook casing... is this common/normal?

It looks to me as though the battery is warping. You would have had to inflict some serious trauma on the machine to warp the actual casing. If I were you I would immediately STOP using that battery as it is likely warping due to overheating. Not to scare you but if it overheats enough, it could explode.

Good luck.

That's what the AppleCare guy told me to do - the battery's out and quietly waiting to be shipped back.
