With the macbook being the last apple product to use white plastic (well, apart from the top of the mini) do you think in the next revision we will see a redesgn?

If so post your designs and thoughts here

The Macbook is maybe a special case, with its need to resist abuse in education. Even if it goes metallic, I'd expect it to stay a little beefier than the MBP.

macbooks

well, don't the rumours suggest that a new macbook will be on its way next month...with leopard?

every keeps talking bout an ultra portable, will this replace the current macbook or be an addition alongside a revamped macbook

i also noticed that apple were getting rid of the white in their products

i have no idea what theyr going to do, unless they make the macbooks in different colours, which i doubt...they cant just continue it in black...and silver????...... NOOO

I think they will replace both the white and the black macbooks and have a metalic case

i nearly got the macbook a few months ago...but sounds like this might be a big update...so im waiting..(and gettin impatient)

....whats this about an ultrportable not having an optical disc drive...sounds a bit **** really

it would be good if it came out when leopard did, and it would make sense for apple...with students startin school/uni etc and xmas in a few months

I think the new macbook would be brushed in metallic with different colours ( old iMac flavors = History repeat itself ?) same as the new iPod Nano (Sony Vaio anyone ?).

I guess they will keep the current 13.3" Macbook. My friend has a new Sony Vaio with its 11.1" screen and I felt it so small and unreadable and felt like a toy. Good thing, she can keep and carry her Sony on her purse and it's very lightweight too !

And the would keep the same keyboard layout. And it could be implemented as well onto the next redesign Macbook Pro.

the following article is from www.crunchgear.com...

"So you held off on buying a MacBook till after WWDC juuuuuuuust in case a new model was announced. Well friends, do you think you can wait just a little bit longer? CG recently spoke to a “trusted source” that has given us “reliable” intel in the past, and he/she/it says to expect new MacBook models around September October for back-to-school time. He/she/it says they’ll be about half the thickness of current models (which would be quite the feat) and they’ll be made from new plastics/materials.

This “trusted, reliable source” also says the iMac is getting the refresh treatment, too, with similar plastics/materials as the new MacBooks. He/she/it did not know, however, whether or not the 17-inch iMac would be sticking around. As always, we’ll let you know as soon as we know.

UPDATE: Just to clarify, the innards of the MacBooks will for all intents and purposes be the same, though, he/she/it says there’ll be some updates to “speeds and feeds.”"

it says itll use similar plastics/materials to the new imac, well the imac is metal and glass, maybe a silver macbook with black glass around the screen?

well...whatever it is...itll have to fit in with the rest of the mac computer range somehow seeming as they are getting rid of the white

I agree that it will have an update Sept/Oct period.

If you check out it's life cycle, it predicts around that period too.

I also think that they will be using aluminium for their new macbooks. Almost everything Apple produces has a metallic touch to it. So i will not be surprised if they do ditch the plastic look.

Having said that, I still really do prefer the plastic look. Makes it look more rugged and durable, as compared to aluminium feel. I wouldn't have a heartache just accidentally scratching or knocking my Macbook.

Come what may, i'll still love Apple.

This was posted on June 20. So i assume since the iMac came out with aluminium + black glass, i can safely say that the new Macbooks will come in aluminium + black glass as well?

And HALF the thickness? That's just amazing. If they do come out under an inch, I'm sure that will help us infer that Apple is more successful with the rumoured UltraPortable, which we might expect 3Q 2008.

i think it was from a couple of months ago.....

but i'm reading a lot about october release...not so sure about this ultraportable thing though

Why is everybody hooked on a redesign of the MacBook?

It just keeps going and going.
You want a redesign. You get it. You are happy for 2 months. Then you want another redesign.

It is a continuous cycle. Just be happy with whats out there right now. :)

yes but what is now wont be around very soon as a rededisgn is expected imminently...and as theyr getting rid of the white, it must be quite a radical change

....worth waiting for...

I couldn't care less about a redesign. All I want is a Santa Rosa chipset and support for 4Gb of RAM. However, I believe it's safe to assume that, seeing that the macbook is the only one in apple's lineup that still uses plastic, it will be made of anodized aluminium, like the new iPod classic. Would be great if they could do this : keep the design but change the material. A santa rosa macbook in black anodized aluminium. Yum !

I sure hope not, the MacBook is beautiful. I doubt I would of bought it if was like the new iMac. White=:apple:

well this is what i will be in the next revision:

Santa Rosa
LED backlit
X3100
Possible new design

Agreed. It's about time Apple updated its Macbooks to SR.

Apple might also reduce the size and weight of Macbooks. Could it be Apple's version of the "ultraportable"? There has been a rant on MBPs being 12" or 13". But does the "ultraportable" need that much power? Dedicated graphics card? Doubt it. As it is already, the Macbook is a powerful road warrior.

So i'm guessing this might be the closest we can get to an "ultraportable" for now. Sorry to burst your bubbles guys. But who knows what the future holds. ;)
