Well my new MacBook arrived a few days ago so I've had a bit of a play now.

I'm so glad I made the purchase.

Glossy Screen is Great.
Graphics are absolutley great. (I only wanted smooth Coverflow and transistions in parallels and Switch user screen)

If anyone else it thinking of getting one. Just do it, but get the 2Gb Ram!!

is the 2GB really worth it? im getting one for my sister for her birthday, just the bottom model i was gna go for..she doesnt do much but sit around on the internet and listen to music..

you know the usually uni type stuff - writing essays, facebook, youtube, myspace, itunes and iphoto.

will 2gb of ram actually make any difference for this? i ddnt think it was going to be worth the money? an extra £110!? ($220)

Yes, get the 2gb.

I got the base model too and on 1Gb it just didn't seem very fast.

I was running parallels to which obviously takes a good chunk.

You can buy 2 x 1Gb Kingston Modules for around £70.

Takes two minutes to fit them.

1 GB is really good without Parallels, but it slows my machine down A LOT when I have Windows running (virtually never now) :)

I agree with psychofreak. If this is all she'll be doing, 1GB is fine. But if she's going to run another OS via Parallels at the same time she's doing that, then get 2GB as mark recommends.

I know this is sort of threadjacking but...

I do less than your sister does (I don't use iPhoto, facebook, or myspace ;) but I do use MTR and/or Handbrake on occasion) and I've found the MB to be much happier w/ 2GB. Seriously. I thought it was overkill, but I'm glad I went for it.

yeah, my macbook definitely needs 2gb. i'm running on the stock 1gb right now and after i open safari, iphoto, itunes, mail, and a couple of other apps, it begins to lag quite badly.

There's no reason to upgrade to 2gb right out of the gate, let her use the 1gb and see how she likes it. My girlfriend has 1gb in her macbook and it really takes a lot for her machine to get bogged down

2Gb is always worth it. I'm sat with 1.12Gb of inactive memory, but most apps load in a blink of the eye, s'magic.

I'm using 520MB, and that's more than I had in the beginning (started with 512Mb). Go for the 2Gb if you can, it will always be worth it.

As long as you need the Rosetta translation, you "need" 2GB RAM, but if all your apps are Universal Binary, then you're good to go with 1GB.
