New MacBook has arrived!!

Last week I ordered a new MacBook and it has finally arrived. The only bad thing about it is that it is my girlfriend's, she is in college and had been talking about wanting a laptop for a while. She had been out looking at Windows laptops and had seen a small sony that she really liked, when she told me this I had a full body shiver. She had been saying that she really liked my Powerbook but wanted something smaller and didn't want to spend a lot on it since she is in school. Well I started explaining to her about the new MacBook and how powerful it is even though it is relatively cheap. Then started explaining how the processing power is just so much more than my poor last generation PBG4, and that is when she bit. We looked at different configurations and talked over what she would be using it for, other than school work, and landed on the baseline MacBook with the HD upgraded to a 120gb.

The problem is that I will probably not see her until tomorrow evening and I have this nice new Mac sitting next to me calling my name, lol. She has told me that I could start configuring it for her, but it is her first laptop and first mac so I just don't feel right in doing anything to it. I just hope that I can hold out until tomorrow night. Wish me luck.

I wish you luck, though I don't think you'll need it. Those MacBooks can instantly win anyone over.

The luck is not needed to win her over. It is for me not to have it out and playing with it tonight. It would be about like a kid getting caught getting into their christmas presents before christmas. :)

She absolutly loved the look of the MacBook and she liked the screen size and foot print of the sony (also a 13"), so I would say that she won't have a problem with it. She also really hated Vista so I was ready to do back flips right there in bestbuy.

I would go and play pool but I have to go sit with my dad, he just recently had a heart attack. So going out and getting my mind off of it will not be too much of an option. :eek:

I'll be praying for you and your dad! And I know I'd be into that box the second it was at my door if I were in your shoes!
 
Ah yes... the registration process... I say let her do it... its like a bonding session :)

Anyway, good luck staying away from it... btw, the smell of it is a good one too..;) :D

I converted my fiance. She as about to buy a Dell but then she saw my macbookpro and the one thing that sold her was the backlit keyboard. She said she'd never buy a windows machine again!!

The registration was indeed a bonding process. She was able to make it over last night and got everything configured and got it up and running. Boy that thing is nice!!!! I may have to break down and get me one, but I really don't need another laptop so I don't know. She was amazed with how it found my wireless network during the first boot screens and connected in. She was also commenting on how it took her so long to get her Gateway (Gen 1 dual core model) up and running. She seems to be really happy with it so far, we just need to get her Microsoft Office, so that she can do her reports for school.

Oh on a side note, that magsafe has one heck of a bite on it. She went to plug it up and the adapter was snatched right out of her fingers. :eek:

Well gotta get back to working, the new MacBook is at my house still and my Powerbook is keeping it company until my girlfriend and I both get there this afternoon.

Macs cater to two kinds of people...two markets if you will. Market one: People who want something that just freakin' works. Market two: People who want something pretty.

How many Dell Dimension desktops do you see in movies? You see the Dell LCDs because they're quite nice but rarely do I see some Dell, HP, Compaq, or other IBM clone laying around.

Macs are pretty reason two for my purchase. Macs work for me, reason one. Owning a mac gives me this unspoken right to sport an apple sticker on my car and know that it didn't come with my ipod, reason three.

Your girlfriend will love it.

She absolutely loves it. I have actually had it more than she has for now because we don't have any type of protection for it, but that should be fixed this weekend (got an InCase neoprene case coming in).

She also has said many times that "it is just so cute" and that is always followed by "if it works as good as yours does then it will be great"

I have actually been thinking about selling or trading my Powerbook and getting a black book, but hey that is for a different thread.

Well i have played with her Macbook a little more and the smaller screen is just hard for me to get over. I have a 24" iMac at work, my 15.4 powerbook at home and a 20" widescreen on my PC, so the 13 may not be for me.

I also am not fond of such small screens myself. I use an old thinkpad sometimes running linux and it has an old 14" screen. Whenever I use it I think my goodness how small this screen is. Especially trying to multitask with and scroll here scroll there etc...
 
Well that is what I have planned now but i cannot do anything until i sell my powerbook. But i am working on that right now.

Good choice! Mine has served me well. The screen is plenty big for me, though I'm a portable loving kinda girl. I once carried my friends' 17" mbp home in my bag and it was just too heavy and too big for comfort. Though in all fairness, I'm little.
