Hi, i am a noob here, and im running a samsung 920bw external monitor, and im wondering, is there a way i can shut the macbook and keep the thing on and not have it sleep?

You'll also need an external keyboard and mouse, but the answer is yes. Just connect all the stuff, close your MacBook to put it to sleep, then hit the space bar on the external keyboard to wake it up again in lid-closed mode. Note that your MacBook must be plugged into an outlet in order for this to work.
Yes, close the lid to put it to sleep. Then slightly open the lid and quickly close it. It should be awake now, or you can insert a USB device to wake it up.
I'll have to try that, I rarely use the remote.
The MB can't be turned on without opening the lid and pushing the power button.
