I've wanted an apple laptop since i first saw an iBook, in a display in a local store. All the other laptops were open for grubby fingered kids like me to touch and spoil, but the iBook was in a glass case, locked away. When it came time for me to switch i couldnt afford much. So i got myself a mac mini for £300 of ebay. And then i got an iMac, cos i just couldnt tell myself that a laptop would have enough power. I used to play lots of games on my windows pc, but now in the mac world i dont do a whole load. i browse mac rumors. listen to music. thats about it. So i decided i didnt need so much power. So i've been bidding on the odd macbook or two, to see how much macbook i can get £500. and i never really expexted to get much. I got a Macbook (1.83, 768MB, 60GB.. i assume its a combo drive, but i never asked) for £530. I dont think thats too bad. I've seen other similar macbooks go for £600-650.

So just got to wait for it to come, and just to wait to see if i like it. Are there any quirks or different habits i should take note of?

All 1.83's are a combo drive. Just got my 1.83 and I don't know of any quirks. Just be sure to calibrate the battery.

I bought the marware protection pack for it, consists of a wristpad and a screen pad that lays over the keyboard. Just got it so I wouldn't have any yellowing on the wrist area. Only other thing I have done is put 2 gigs of ram in it and up the harddrive to 160, but doesn't have to be done.

Thanks for the tips guys. Do you think that screen protectors and wrist pads are really necessary. Do these things wear that easily?

I would have gone for a 2GHz if i had the money, cos that comes with DVD-RW and its a faster clock speed, more RAM, bigger drive, all as standard. But that'll have to wait till next time ;)

What do you do to calibrate the battery? Or should i just wait till i get it to have a look myself.

I dont understand. I'd hardly say you kicked my ass. like £10 in it  Mine had more RAM though.
