New Macbook Pro - 15" LED; Matte vs Glossy

Please can someone help me. Going crazy trying to decide on Matte vs Glossy Macbook Pro.

I am NOT a graphics professional.

I do however,

- Do a lot of word processing; excel; and emailing
- Web development

Video and Pictures more for fun.

Everyone says glossy. Has anyone been disappointed by their new gloss screen; suggest Matte?
Been to the shop, like both. Help, please!

Well My Non SR MBP was Matte but I went to the store to get it replaced for the new MBP and they gave me a glossy. Its a huge improvement. I believe the Glare issue is exagerated because I havent had an glare issues yet.

I personally do not like glossy screens at all and I suggest getting the matte, but I'm a Graphic Designer. What kind of lighting conditions are you going to use the MacBook Pro under? If you are going to use it under a lamp or near a lot of light where there would be a chance of glare, then go matte. If you want oversaturated pictures and images, that "look better" then go glossy. If you really can't decide, flip a coin .

I have the new glossy and love it. Ive had no issues with glare or eye fatigue so far.

Good luck, its a fun decision to have 2 make!

depends on your environment...

personally i have a matte screen, but i do a lot of photo-editing.

while glare/eye fatigue issue may be overstated, the glossy screens will pick up glare from bright sources, like a nearby window, and will be particularly noticable if viewed from an angle. But most people don't view their computer from an angle, and the deeper blacks from the glossy screens are great when watching movies.

if possible go to an apple store and check out both to compare.

I just find that glossy screens become annoying when you spend hours looking at them. Also, if there's any bright light source in the room, it will refect onto the screen. I know this probably sounds a bit daft, but when that happens you become very aware that there is a layer of something inbetween you and the image on the screen. That becomes very annoying and distracting when looking at long documents for hours.

But, it is a personal preference. Mines based on a year of using the Macbook. When I first got it I was ecstatic because movies and general browsing looked great, but when it came to serious use it just got on my tits.

If you're writing a lot and working with text, I strongly suggest you go with matte. You may get used to the glossy and think that the reflections are fine, but they're still going to be there and even if you don't care, your eyes will notice it. Glossy caused my eyes to be sore and tired and I suspect it was because they were constantly adjust to the glare and text. I've used both and prefer the matte any day - especially now that the grain and uneven illumination issues have been resolved.

I have never used the Macbooks yet, mine is currently on order, however I have experienced the exact opposite on the PC laptop side with the glossy not hurting my eyes over long periods of use where the non-glossy does. I suppose itmust have alot to do with the differences in individual eyesight people have. On my new Mackbook pro I ordered the new glossy finish so I will see how it goes once I get it.
