I've had a MBP for about two years, but a couple of weeks back, my up key stopped working, so I went to the Apple Store to turn it in for repairs. Fast forward to last friday, and they say they've ordered the wrong part, so they offer to dump all my data into a new MBP, and I agree (which was awesome :). On Saturday night, the battery indicator read out 4 hours of battery life at 100%, but now it reads out 2 hours and 40 mins at 100%. I've heard about developing a memory on your battery, but this seems a little bit quick, no? It's only been 5 days since I got my hands on this new MBP....

Any advice? Perhaps going back to the Store?

My MBP varies from 2.5 hours to 3.5 hours depending on what I am doing. Calibrate it if you haven't.

iStat widget can tell you the health of your battery. Coconut makes a free battery checker too.

Congrats on the new computer! :D

The battery life changes depending on what task you're doing. Is there a difference in what you're doing when it was 4 hours and when it was 2?

the only program that i'm running now that I wasn't then, is Parallels, which could hit the power negatively I suppose, but shaving two hours off seems a little bit large...

Whatever numbers your Mac is giving you is a GUESS. It has no idea how many hours or minutes it will be alive. When the screen dims it goes up by 30 minutes. When Parallels closes it will go up by 45. When you start iDVD it will drop an hour... it is guessing.

Calibrate, run the programs I suggested and go from there.
