Yesterday I took delivery of my brand new MacBook Pro 15" 2.4Ghz SR, and couldn't be happier with my purchase!

This is my first Mac, and the computer my MBP is replacing is a Dell Inspiron 2650 that is over 4 years old. While I must say that the Dell only required two calls to tech service over the years, I didn't want to go the Dell route again.

After evaluating, trying and comparing as many laptops as possible, I decided to pull the trigger on Apple. Fortunately, I found MacRumors a couple months back, and didn't buy then, thanks to the site mentioning the MBP's were due to be updated.

The only area where this computer doesn't rate with the very best machines from other manufacturers is not having the same amount of VRAM available, although 256MB in a new card is hardly tripe. I could go on and on, spouting superlatives regarding this MBP, but the best comparison I can make is this:

A BMW 328i and Ford Mustang GT are both cars, both get you from Point A to Point B, both carry passengers and groceries. The Ford is faster in a straight line, and is somewhat less expensive than the BMW. But if given a choice most people over 25 (and many under) would take the BMW and smile like I have since yesterday.

The MBP is the BMW of the laptop world.

for the well wishes. You'll love it when you get yours!

Thanks, mine is getting closer as we speak as it just left Alaska at 6:48pm today. Scheduled for the 13th delivery to me. Can I ask you a question on your wireless functionality? I have read some posts talking about finicky wirless without an airport router. Are you running an airport to connect to and if not any issues with the wireless? I may go buy an airport tomorrow at our local apple store just in case but thought I would ask new macbook pro owners if they are doing ok with their wireless so far.

Thanks

Have to wait until Monday

for the wireless test. I ordered an Airport Extreme after I got the MBP, because I didn't want to have the Airport Extreme sitting around and be driven crazy if the MBP was delayed for some reason!

When I get it all set up, I will be sure to let you know how it goes.

1. The current 3 Series does not have an oil dipstick under the hood.
2. People under 25 would pick the 335i. :D

You know...

...always has to be one wise guy to ruin a perfectly good analogy. HAHA

If I was picking any of them, I'd probably want the M5.

Congratulations, I'm jealous! I ordered one as well, but since I am located in Austria they told me that I still have to wait a couple of weeks!!! until I will have "my precious" in my hands.:(

beemers typically driven by pushy business types, mustangs driven by laid back knowledgable people who know how to have fun and don't act like snobs around others. mustang it is. and thats the old one not the newer one too :) or something crazy like a charger. Basically its about the experience for which a beemer would feel like almost every other car on the market right now...
