Hi all,

I currently have a 2016 MacBook Pro and a Mac Studio - I am an amateur photographer and use the Mac Studio for most of the editing when home. However, when I travel, I need a computer with me.
My current 2016 MacBook Pro did the trick - but I have noticed that the middle part of the battery is starting to swell.
If its off for a while - its seems ok - however, when its charging - if you press on the corners on the machine while on a desk there is a very noticeable wobble.
With the, what seems to be, imenent release of new MBPs tomorrow -
Trying to see if it make sense to try to get the battery replaced in the 2016 (which is still intel and can't run Ventura or any future MacOS releases) - or purchasing a new one potentially tomorrow.
I do have a trip coming up in the middle of next month - and with the battery issue - I don't feel quite safe using the 2016 as is and bringing it on a plane...

Any thoughts would be great - thanks....

Upgrade your 7 year old laptop to a new one.

I’m in the same category, I have a M1 MBA for my travel purposes, love it. You can get MBA for quite some deals at the moment

Yeah depending on how much power you actually need on the road, you may be able to get by with an MBA since you already got a Studio as a main desktop. That said, the 14" is still excellent in terms of portability, it is just not as ultra-portable as the Air, so if you want to have a direct replacement of the 2016 MBP then I'd say get like a base 14" when it drops tomorrow. Any higher spec or even the 16" will bring the price much higher and you end up overlapping with the Studio.
P.S. I myself was using an M1 MBA + 2017 iMac combo. Then eventually upgraded to a 14" + Studio combo. Used the 16" briefly but thought it was too large despite being a great machine with great screen and speakers. The 14" can do most of what it does while being much more manageable.

If you want one of the new ones, and have a trip coming up -- probably would do best to get that order in early...
