New Macbook Pro, Superdrive not reading any discs

I just got my brand new Macbook Pro 15.4 inch 2gb ram 160GB 7200RPM in today, I was putting music into iTunes, and it was working fine for the most part. Then the disc starts lagging, I try to eject it and it doesn't want to come out, so I re-start and it comes out, now it doesn't want to read anything at all. I REALLY needed this computer for work, and I am basicly screwed if I can't use the syperdrive to install my programs, so if anyone can help me I'd really apperciate it.

Run Software Updater and then try resetting the SMC.

Yea, i think the updater is what screwed up the machine in the first place. I ran the software updater and I think it updated the firmware. I wish I can just format the machine and bring it back to how it was before, but the disc won't read at start up either. and The directions said to unplug everything turn off the machine plug everything back in and tun it back on, so it must have reset being I've done that a bunch of times not knowing that would reset anything. Ugh, I can't believe this whole situation. Why would I have to buy a machine only for it to have a DOA Superdrive. And I also noticed the screen kinda goes dim for no reason every once in a while and goes back to bright. I should have known this was going to happen after the 6 iPods that broke for no reason.

Your screen going dim is because you probably have the power settings set to "Better Energy Savings" or to "Normal". Click on the battry icon and change it to "Better Performance" or custom it to settings you would prefere.

As for the superdrive, have you tried reading other cd's in the drive as well, like a plain audio cd or a normal dvd movie? If so, did the drive read these media? If so, then did you try reinserting the mac DVD software disk after this?
