I just purchased a new MBP and I don’t want ANY of my old files from my desktop to transfer to it with my Apple ID. The only thing I want to carry over is the FILES app with all my documents. I want none of the old garbage on the desktop to transfer over. Is there a way to make sure nothing transfers to the new machine without having to make a new Apple ID? I know files get transferred from the cloud and I don’t want that.

Thank you.

You can disable iCloud Desktop folder so that your desktop files will never go with your Apple ID

What about things in the hard drive like old files and stuff and how do you disable what you just mentioned my friend.

Open System Preferences, Click Apple ID, then Click "options " beside iCloud Drive, then uncheck the "Desktop and Documents folders".

After doing that, the Desktop/Document folder you created before will remain in your iCloud Drive but will be removed from you Mac. You can download the files you want from iCloud Drive and make a backup if you wish.

Just set it up as a new machine, that's it. That's how I always do it and transfer what I want, keep the rest on my external drives or iCloud.

I've NEVER had any files transferred from iCloud.
