Did you recognize that also? That was the first thing when I saw them and loved the new design. Also, appreciated that Apple made the new models thicker and heavier. No more thinness craze after all, huh?

OMG, I was trying to put my finger on what the new MacBook looked like. Although couldn't we open the old one up for RAM and SSD upgrades, or even get a third party adapter to replace the DVD with a second HD! Those were the days!

That was my immediate deja vu too after seeing the new MBP's.

Also relieved there is no reminiscence of design elements from the new 24-inch iMac.

Inspired by a little bit, sure.
But it's hardly some super close match or anything.

Machines just look different these days with the very different design & construction techniques

The black keyboard, especially from the top, reminds a LOT of these black silicone keyboard cover/protectors I used on my MBP's a decade ago.

The thickness of the case also reminds me of the aluminum PowerBook G4 and 2006-08 MacBook Pros, along with the unibody 2008-2012 MacBook Pros. Since I have both kinds (a 2005 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 and a 2012 2.6 GHz Core i7 15" unibody MacBook Pro), I began to notice the resemblance when they gave a good look at the thickness of the case.

They started the retro look with iPhone 13 that resembles the iPhone 4 so it was intentional with the new Macbook Pros to resemble the late 2001 iBook G3. Only semi-real Apple fanboys will appreciate. It would have to resemble the IIc for real fanboys.

I believe the 14” actually isn’t thicker than the 13” model and the 16” is barely thicker - they just look thicker because they’re not using the same tapered edge design that hides the thickness of the old design. I personally am a bit “meh” on the bottom half of the design, but I really like the back of the screen, the new keyboard design, and bezels though (don’t care about the notch).

Yes I had one of those. It was a powerhouse at the time. And if Intel hadn’t started making multicore chips, that the Apple consortium did not have the money and skills to make at the time, the world of personal computing would be in a different and much more advanced place now.

Shruti Haldea was just out of college, and Tim Cook still worked for Pepsi cola(it took Cook quite some time to figure out Apple Culture. I remember how unhappy we all were to have him replace Steve Jobs).

My memory of personal computer goes back to the dawn in the early 70’s.
