Everything is rumors right now.. we will know closer to end of july.

I do not think they plan to change the case for the macbook. Personally I do not like a latch case is fine as is. It will be nice to have a 13" macbook pro but they wont happen anytime soon.

I'm currently using a PowerBook G4 1.25GHz and considering the move to a MacBook Pro. I'm interested to know whether the Merom will appear in MBP's by August as that will determine whether i get a MBP now or later.

It not released you wont know till its released.

If you need one now, buy it now. If you can wait , then wait.

We are? I'm expecting a pro desktop machine and new X-Serves I have no idea when Apple will release a new MacBook Pro.

I hope they put ATi Mobility X1900's or 7900 Go's in it. Or atleast a 7600 Go.

I would like to see a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS... If heat is an issue they could underclock it a bit... I believe it has 20 Pixel Pipelines —which is major improvement over ATI Mobility Radeon X1600's 12 Pixel Pipelines.

As soon as Merom starts shipping, Macbook Pro will need a merom (and so will Macbook in my opinion) to stay competitive again. So why wouldn't it be considered a new revision? - Also there is no reason why they might be considering adding new graphics etc, or at least evaluating the possibility of it.

personally i'm waiting for the next mac book pros, as i really would like to see a firewire 800 port back on the 15" machines.

the fact that my favorite apps are not yet universal binaries will also help me to be patient ;)

How about 2.16 GHz in the low-end 15", and 2.33 GHz for hi-end 15" and 17". Also a 1 GB RAM standard in all MBP's, a 512 MB videocard option for the 17". Expresscard/54 on all, and FW800 on the 15". 8x DL burner in 15", and possibly a magnetic latch, plus glossy screen standard. I believe an X1800 will be probable, and I also hope for an upgrade in the screen resolution:D

How likely is it that Apple will dramatically change the overall design of its MacBook Pros?

When the Santa Rosa chipset appears next year (Q1 2007) is my guess.

The initial core2 duo mbps i expect to look exactly like the current machines.

I really hope that apple do not make glossy screens as standard. I like the matt-finish, anti-reflective screens. The glossy one are almost like looking into a mirror and are just plain crap for any form of designing. Keep a choice, if you make it standard, you will alienate a lot of customers. Besides, we all like choice and more choice, means more appeal.

I LOVE my PowerBook's matt finish, and as soon as I upgrade to a MBP, I'm taking the matt finish option too.

While I hope to see FW800 put back into the 15" portable (as I do use it on my powerbook) I highly doubt it will make an apearance until a new chipset is implemented into the MBP (ie Santa Rose). With Merom being Napa compatible, apple will most likely keep the same systems theyve been selling and drop a merom instead of a yonah.

a new graphics card could be nice too, just to keep up with things.

santa rosa? what's this? are we already looking past merom??

Each chip has a backplane chipset that supports it. We're currenty on Nappa (533Mhz bus limitation), Santa Rosa is the next one (800 Mhz bus support).
