New Macbook, Upgrading Hard Drive. Transfer files?

I've been using my new macbook for about a week now, and have moved my files from my IBM(yay!) over to this thing, and I've come across a great deal on a 120gb harddrive for it, and I want to be able to basically take this install, all the applications and files and dump it on the new drive. How can I do this? Is there a utility that will allow me to back up this drive on my external drive, and then re-load all of it into a fresh OSX install on my giant 120gb?

You can clone your Mac to your external drive and even boot from the external drive to make sure the clone was successful before swapping the internal drives.

What if you already have a bootable backup from a past computer on the external? Is there a way to split it up. I just bought a MB stock, and before I bought this I backed everything from my eMac up onto my external. I plan on getting a bigger drive to replace this 60 GB, so when I actually do, do I have to split up my external? Or can I just use the cloner and copy? I don't want the 2 backups to get mixed up. Sorry if this is confusing.

Probably just resize the partition on the external drive to make room for the new drive image. Then make a new partition and make that the new backup.

I don't know OSX. I only know Windows, and Linux to a point. How would I transfer my Applications back over to the new one from the external drive? would it be a drag and drop situation or is it a little more involved?
