Hi,

I just bought a MBP C2D and I overall pretty happy with it but there is one major issue that is killing me.

The D key doesn't work like the rest of the keys in the keyboard. It depends
they way you press it, but you can feel it's kind of crunchy.

It is very annoying. I have had a powerbook G4 that was 3 years old and the
keyboard feeling was great.

I took the MBP to the apple store and they told me that it is under the specs so they can't not do anything.

I am considering to return it.

Any advice?

I would take it back to Apple again and be more aggressive. Use the word "demand"

"It obviously is not working correctly I demand a fix or a replacement."

If whoever you're talking to says no, demand a manager.

You have to demand things, not *ask* for them. Demanding leaves them no real options without causing a scene, which they won't want to do inside an Apple Store.

They're usually pretty good about these things. I got a new Mighty Mouse for free, and my friend got a whole new iMac for free.

Yeah i would go back to the Apple Store and make sure they can tell that it is not working correctly. Suggest to them what you would like them to do...I would suggest making sure they know you don't want a replacement or something like that, maybe suggest they take the key off and put it back on for you. I think the disconnect here is that if they admit it is not within spec then they have to fix it, obviously. So if you can get them to fix it with them saying it is broken everyone will be happy:D . I think you will find taking it off and putting it back on will fix it, but have them do it.

Thanks for the fast replies guys.

I was thinking about removing the key myself but I am not sure how to do it.

I am going to get back to the apple store and (damn it.. another d) make
them to fix it.

You are right, I think I wasn't agressive enough

get a supervisor while you are there. Get NAMES!

They also felt that my 17" MBP's screen was "within spec" when it wouldn't stay up. (I didn't see the point in a notebook with a screen that couldn't stay open)

Well, I am back from the apple store.

My dddddddd key works much better now.

So initially they didn't want to do anything. They kept saying: the system
works under the specs. Then I was like: Ok, I don't care if this works under
the specs or not, the thing is it doesn't work for me, so please, do something.

The manager was not very helpful neither.. he was just basically saying
yes to everything I was saying and he pressed the d key for 1000 times.. and
he kept saying yes to me all the time. But he was doing nothing to fix
the problem.

Then they bring one of the genius and he took out the key and he put another one. After doing that, the key was working fine.

Bottom line: You were right, if you don't push.. they don't do anything at
all.

Thanks everybody for the advices.
