New Macbooks NOT gettins SR!?

That's what Appleinsider is saying. I've been waiting for SR in the Macbook so I could get the better graphics chipset but this may not happen and it's upsetting. May just hold onto my money and G4 for a real update to the Macbook...which basically hasn't been touched since it was introd. over a year ago (except for the addition of the C2D). Anyway...here's the link to the article.

I guess Apple is going to put Penryn chips in the MacBook then, later this year or early next year. Apple on the other hand might choose to update the MacBook whenever they want. Nobody really knows when the MacBook is going to be updated.

I don't disagree with you there. But the article pretty much just talks about a "strong possibility" that MacBooks will have SR, whille Apple Insider has a source that seems to have more details on specifications.

For the record, I believe (hope?) the TS is right that we'll hear something next week.

I don't believe Apple would neglect the MacBook to that extent.... I see no reason for them NOT to put SR in it...

Oh and the Mac Mini is pretty much dead.. forget about that piece of hardware.
 
Contrary to the threads on this board, the world is not waiting for Santa Rosa to buy their computers. Leopard's delay may (or may not) have a slowdown effect, but the world doesn't care about Santa Rosa, and until they start shipping laptops with flash drives (the ram for which are all going into iPhones at the moment), there is nothing radical about the Santa Rosa. 10%. Wooohoooo!!!
 
Problem with the above quote is that it neglects the improved integrated graphics card. At least with respect to graphics, it is more than a minor update.
 
Considering Santa Rosa and new Core 2 Duo chips cost just about the same as older Napa platform, I find it hard to believe. That said, I think MBP will get FULL SR treatment (including Robson NAND) whereas MB will get only a subset.
 
Though I'm not sure if I believe it, it would make sense...it might make people think about spending the extra money and buying the Pro...yet then again it might also make more computer savvy people go with computers that have SR.

I still think that they'll probably get updated with the same technology, perhaps not at the same time, but close to it.
 
no SR would be a huge disapointment. I've been waiting to buy a macbook for several months now in the hope that they do something about the useless graphics chipset they currently ship. The wait is getting painful, will end up buying a windows laptop at this rate.
 
Well they are going to update something, if it was only more RAM and a bigger HD being added, then I don't see why Apple would need to stop the production of the current model.

So it has to be something bigger than that. If it's not SR, then the only other update I can think of would be a faster GPU, maybe the ATI HD2300m (which would allow them to add HDCP for future HD movie playback).
 
Please stop complaining about mbp and mbs. imacs havnt been overhauled sine 2004 and no speed bump since september. Macbooks arnt even that slow.

Neither are the iMacs. ;)

I think that Apple will use SR in their next revision notebooks; all models replete with LED displays. From reading a lot about Santa Rosa, what it is, cost and its benefits, I do doubt Apple not utilising SR. With PC manufacturers already producing Centrino Duo/Pro laptops, Apple must move forward to keep up with the competition. I, personally, don't have any use for what Santa Rosa can provide but there's always those people that say, "Well if HP can make a Santa Rosa laptop, why can't Apple?" These are the same people who've been clamouring on that Santa Rosa is a revolution when it clearly isn't so.

I've said it before and I'll repeat myself; Santa Rosa isn't the be all and end all of chipsets. The difference between models such as the C2D MB and an SR MB are marginal at best. Of course, we'd probably see the top of the line 2.4GHz SR chip in one of the MBPs however more people are likely to buy a mid-range MB than a high-end MBP.

I wouldn't mind some of those LED displays though. :D
