The regular white Macbooks are shipping in 5-7 days while the black is at 24 and the MBPs are also at 24 hours. Any chance of Merom Macbooks soon?

Forget old revision patterns of Apple too, there are different rules now.

I do expect the MB to be updated before the holiday buying season, but it'll be just a speed bump of the current processors.
Apple Corps said:A different response. YES - you will see Merom in Apple notebooks soon. Merom will be shipping in about a month and Apple will have no viable choice but to use it as soon as it is released.

If Dell, for example, choose to market Merom as the "premium" version of Yonah, then only the more expensive laptops will have it in thus meaning Apple don’t really have to stick it in the MacBook but do the Pro.
I’d love to see Merom in the MacBook, but I’m sceptical at this point.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2 said:Merom, Intel's first mobile version of the Core 2 processor, will be released in August 2006 and will replace the Intel Core Duo line of mobile processors. Merom will largely have the same features as Conroe, but with more emphasis on low power consumption to enhance notebook battery life. Intel has claimed that Merom will provide 20% more performance yet maintain the same battery-life as the Yonah-based Core Duo. Merom will be the first Intel mobile processor to feature EM64T 64-bit extensions.
Intel has stated that the first version of Merom will be drop-in compatible with the current Core Duo platform, requiring at most a BIOS update. It will have the same thermal envelope and the same 667 MT/s bus rate.
The Merom processors are expected to be labeled as the "T5x00" and "T7x00" Core 2 Duo models, with the T5500 clocked at 1.66 GHz, the T5600 clocked at 1.83 GHz, the T7200 clocked at 2.0 GHz, the T7400 clocked at 2.16 GHz, and the T7600 clocked at 2.33 GHz. The T5x00 models are expected to come with 2 MB of shared L2 cache, and the T7x00 models are expected to come with 4 MB of shared L2 cache.
A second wave of Merom processors featuring an 800 MT/s FSB and using the new Socket P is expected to launch in April 2007. These chips will be part of the platform codenamed "Santa Rosa".
As much as I love Merom as well, I don't see it immediately being put into the MacBook at launch. I expect one more Yonah line in the MacBook at least. 2.0/2.16 Ghz and then Merom. The MacBook will be competitive, have a low price, and have a good profit margin. The MacBook is a consumer laptop and can afford a wait before going to Merom. The MacBook Pro needs to hop onto Merom since it's seen is a portable workstation.generik said:IIRC what will happen when Core 2 is released is that it will eventually move down towards the current bottom of the line, so we will see 1.66Ghz Core 2 Duo chips as well. Simply put, the older Core chips are essentially completely replaced by the Core 2 variants.
It makes sense too, after all "slower" chips are basically those that fail to make the grade for higher clock speeds, and it is not like when Intel switches over to the new microarchitecture their yields will increase tremendously. They will still have chips that can't make the grade, and likewise get clocked down and marketed as budget chips.
What I foresee is the "consumer lines" will get the Meroms with 2MB of cache, while the Macbook Pro will get the higher tiered processors.

Maybe shipping early September, but I would expect a lesser announcement at WWDC alongside the other Pro Mac upgrades.Apple Corps said:New MBP with Merom in September is very likely IMO - not sure about seeing them in the Macbook that soon though.

Currently the difference between the Macbook and the Macboo Pro is arguably minimal. To justify the enormous price gap between the two, Apple would be wise to not even consider Merom in the Macbook yet. I don't even see Apple competing with other consumer laptops so that theory can fly out the window. Why would they? Apple has it's own OS. If it wasn't for Bootcamp would this discussion even be taking place?
