Hey all,
I thought today would just be another ho-hum day amongst the pc's at work. Lo and behold a coworker approached me for advise on Mac's. Seems my empoyers want a Mac for the media dept, and are sick of the pc's. I suggested we shave some cost by obtaining the Ram elswhere and insalling ourselve. Only problem is, I don't know if we can do that. Anyone know if it is easy to install Ram in the Macpro. We are looking to configure as follows:
2x2.66 Ghz
2GB Ram
2x500GB Hd's
4x NVIDIA grafix
2xsuperdrive.

I wanted to cut the cost of it, so any suggestions would help. Also, Any suggestions of good displays for less than the apple brand would be great. I never though I would see the day when the Mac entered into my workspace. Now I will never get work done, I will be on the Macpro.
FYI: We are a nonprofic org. Will apple give us a discount?
Thanks

Mac Pro uses 667MHz DDR2 ECC RAM, most likely manufactured by Samsung or Micron (Apple rebrands the RAM)
Most of the time it's cheaper to buy and install the RAM yourself than it is to have the computer shipped with it.

For displays I personally use a Samsung (21") and a Dell (20").

It shouldn't be too hard to install the ram. And no apple is hihgly unlikely to give you a discount because you are non profit.
