So today with the new M1 iMacs Apple also launched the new Magic Keyboard with TouchID.

Maybe I missed it in the presentation, but did they say if the new keyboard (or rather, the Touch ID feature) will also work with the M1 Mac Mini? I can't find anything on the website as they don't see to sell it separately (yet).

I recall no word on whether it will or won't be compatible with other M1 models.

Can't find it listed in the store so no info there either - but I'd be surprised if it wasn't compatible with other M1 macs.

Certainly hope so as i wants it!

Updated. Found this in announcement - Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is fully compatible with all M1 Macs, including the new iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini.

At first I was excited by this, then I realized I have the apple watch and really don't need it so I'll stick to my 1243 keyboard (best keyboard ever made) until it dies, at that point I'll probably get the magic keyboard in what ever iteration is available then.

Compatible with all M1 Macs as others have said, but not available to purchase on its own. It likely will be eventually, but could be awhile like the space gray keyboard originally.

Your watch must work more reliably as a touchID replacement than mine does.

Yep - gonna guess they have just so much production capacity for those and anticipate a buying surge on the imacs when released, so it'd make sense not releasing them as a separate item for a while.

Only thing I can not do is logging in after boot or reboot. Otherwise it always works for me when I need to authenticate
Recognizing this is a tangent from the main thread - are you working in open or clamshell mode? I'm usually in open mode even when docked. I frequently get Safari looking for touchID as well as 1Password - though the latter is set for watch authentication and sometimes does it.

Probably just need to reboot / reset / repair or something. Hasn't been enough of an annoyance to do anything about yet. :)

I had been thinking that a keyboard with Touch ID would be nice. I currently have the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad with my M1 Mini. I wonder if they will have a version with the Numeric Keypad and Touch ID?

Yes, as mentioned in the MR article: https://www.macrumors.com/2021/04/20/magic-keyboard-touch-id-compatible-all-m1-macs/

While the new Magic Keyboard is compatible with all M1 Macs, it will only be available with the new iMac, at least initially. The new iMac can be configured with one of three different Magic Keyboards, including a standard version with Touch ID, a standard version without Touch ID, and an extended version with Touch ID and a numeric keypad.
