Hi,

I’ve been trying to figure out what’s really different about the new Magic Trackpad 3 (A3120, the USB-C one). From what I’ve seen so far, Apple didn’t say much, just switched the port to USB-C and made it require macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later.

Some people on Reddit and YouTube say it feels smoother and more responsive, maybe because of a new Taptic Engine or better internal controller. A few even mentioned it works more fluidly on high refresh rate displays (100-144 Hz).

So I’m wondering - is there actually new hardware inside, or is it basically the same Trackpad 2 with a different connector and new firmware?
Has anyone opened it up or compared both side by side?

Would love to hear from someone who actually tried it

Thanks!

I'm not sure my trackpad currently using is it the Magic Track Pad 3. While I purchase my M3 iMac last year, i opt for Magic Trackpad not the default mouse. ( This iMac disappoint me due to suddenly lines appear , I will not say here you can check out my thread I do mention there ).

I have bad experience on the Apple mouse which that time I buy my ever first iMac. After using like few months I feel like lag is not due to battery , I even buy the Apple rechargeable batteries that come with the charger to charge. Later like few months it seem faulty. Than I go buy the Trackpad. The first Apple Trackpad that run on batteries. i still using it on my old iMac but the trackpad sensor the left side is faulty the right still ok thus I still able to use it. Partly while you use the trackpad. Most of the time you are touching the right side if you are right handed of course. The left side hardly your fingers can touch there.

The 2nd old iMac I buy which currently I still using sitting beside my M3 iMac, I also choose the trackpad instead the apple mouse. The design is white and slim , with internal battery. I used like one year or so suddenly Whole trackpad cannot use. I not sure why. I never split any chemicals or foreign object knock on this trackpad. When come cleaning I even use the Apple cloth to wipe. I don't even use any liquid. Just only the cloth to wipe the surface when I feel like dusty on the surface while touching , using it.

So this M3 iMac , which I mention I also opt for the trackpad. The looks still the same , white colour. the size also. I don't know is it what you claim is Magic Track 3. So far it seem okie. I only worry is don't know can last or not since the other trackpad which i mention look like the one I have with my M3.
