Lost the new mail sound.
Been into mail preferences and all seem okay there. And the volume is set okay.
Anything further to check.
Please.
David

I have the same issue - new mail and send mail swoosh are gone. System Preferences Notifications does not show option for sounds. Have changed sound from default, tested with different accounts and started in Safe Mode. Running 11.2.1.

Found a thread elsewhere that suggested resetting NVRAM using Terminal SUDO NVRAM -C. It worked and the sounds and notifications are back.

~ % SUDO NVRAM -C
Password:
NVRAM: (usage: no such option as -C)
NVRAM [-x] [-p] [-f filename] [-d name] [-c] name[=value] ...
-x use XML format for printing or reading variables
(must appear before -p or -f)
-p print all firmware variables
-f set firmware variables from a text file
-d delete the named variable
-c delete all variables
name=value set named variable
name print variable
Note that arguments and options are executed in order.

So I tried in lower case:

~ % sudo nvram -c
Password:
nvram: Error clearing firmware variable fmm-mobileme-token-FMM: (iokit/common) not permitted
nvram: Error clearing firmware variable fmm-mobileme-token-FMM-BridgeHasAccount: (iokit/common) not permitted
nvram: Error clearing firmware variable fmm-computer-name: (iokit/common) not permitted

Where's the thread you mention? 🤔

Received the error messages posted further in the comment stream but cleared out whatever was causing the issue.
So that seems to be relevant to M1 Macs. It doesn't seem to work on my 2019 MacBook Pro 13"

I previously used this method:

Rules are working, and I am seeing Notification Alerts, but the only sounds I hear is the "Whoosh" when I send mail.

Worked for my iMac mid 2015. All sounds were off and notifications were not working. All reset now. Also noticed that under System Settings - Notifications - Mail that sounds are not an option to control either. They are set in the MAIL Preferences but turning them off/on had no effect. Only the NVRAM fixed the problem.

I'm not even getting notifications with sounds on in Mail prefs.

If I disable sounds in Mail I sometimes get an alert but not always.

If I disable Notifications and enable sounds in Mail I get nothing. I've also noticed that even though one of my Rules is set to bounce the Dock icon and play a sound it does bounce the icon but does not show the red "unread" dot, nor does it play the sound.

I'm interested to know if your fix sticks.

I've found that things seem to work for a short while after a reboot or resetting NVRAM/PRAM, then it goes back to no sounds and no Alerts.

It's a mess and has been for some time now, and I can only hope 🤞🏻 it gets resolved in OS 11.3.
