Has anyone had a chance to check out the latest update to the Play Store? There are a lot of nice visuals baked in. The sidebar has a flatter look and they added a neat animation to the menu bar, also you get an updated icon. I have to say I'm quite impressed with the way Material Design is panning out.

They have a link you can download over @ xda

Google Play Store version 5.0.3.1

It looks really slick.

I'm hoping a lot more apps start getting their updates pushed out and in a few months, the app experience on Android is on par - if not better because of extra functionality - than iOS. I've been on Android for a couple of years and love the speed of progress but slickness and presentation of apps is still not as good as iOS, but I have high hopes for Material Design and Android L.

I don't understand this "Material Design" thing. What is "Material Design" in these screenshots? To me, it looks like a regular design with buttons and some shadows. I don't see any "materials" here. I thought Material Design means controls look like physical objects rendered with light tracing, no?

Where did you get that definition? Just curious.

Once you use it you will get it. Can't judge from the screenies.

Shamelessly stolen from Google+, I don't think android has had such detail on something so small before.

That animation is so gorgeous. I'll be honest in saying I spent a good 5 minutes looking at it on my Nexus 7.
