I ordered a MacBook Pro that should be here in a couple days, and it will be my first non-Windows computer. I'm a student who won't be using it for too much editing or gaming, just everday tasks usually and watching some dvds. I was planning on getting MS Office, but was unsure what other software I should get that doesn't already come on the computer. Also, I heard that the computer can get a little hot, so I was planning on getting a cooling pad for it as well. Is the cooling pad necessary, and are there any other accessories you would advise getting?

Also, I got an 30 gb iPod with the computer and I haven't opened it yet since I heard they might be coming out with new ones. If they did, would I be able to exchange my unopened one for a new verision if I ordered mine on July 24th? Thanks a lot for your help, it's greatly appreciated.

Cooling pads aren't necessary no. I use mine fine without one. Mine doesn't get warm unless I am doing something intensive, like playing a game, graphic editing etc.

MS are bringing out Office 2008:Mac very very soon (no release date, but hopefully it'll be out within the next 2 months). You get a 28-day trial of MS Office 2004 on your Mac, so you can use that for pretty much a month and Office 2008 might be out by then.

Other software - Toast - great and very easy software for burning DVD's.

As for other accessories, I'd recommend a Hybrid USB TV Tuner, there is a few around for the Mac, but make sure whatever one you get (if you want one..) the software is EyeTV.

Not until January I'm afraid.
To be honest, I'm yet to find something that MS Office does, that Neo Office (a free alternative) doesn't do.

Blimey, I feel a fool now!

Never noticed that - but I generally don't view the homepage much to be honest.

it doesnt get too hot if you dont touch it! or put it on your legs.

keep it on a desk and its fine.

I would suggest some sort of tray if you want to use it on your lap. Mine gets scaldingly hot under normal usage (which is different than other people's normal usage).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D052; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320)

due to the current apple edu promo any new ipods released will likely be excluded anyway so open your ipod and enjoy.
