new MBA! kind of hot?

Hey, so I just got home with my new macbook air, it's sick and I love it. I've got pretty much all my apps installed and I'm putting all my music on now.

The one thing is it's kind of hot. the CPU is around 50-60 degrees all the time and warm just to the left of the keyboard, is this normal?

Other than that it seems pretty good, in my room which isn't lit very well the keyboard backlight is on all the time unless I turn it off but thats not too bad, I'll have to try it out in some other lighting situations.

as for the keyboard i recommend labtick

My last MBA reaches temps. up to 85 degrees C

mine hit ~105 deg C before. It sometimes get a little hot but it works.

He's talking about the charging port. The charging port itself is a seperate piece of logic board and it does get EXTREMELY hot. Under gaming conditions, even with a laptop cooler, that port itself reaches an excess of 80 deg C. The board is no bigger then 2 keyboard keys. Its perfectly normal.

well since then when I was installing apps, putting on data etc it's been a lot better, right now on my lap with iTunes iChat and Safari open its at 45 Degrees, no wait 43... so it's ok I got SMC Fan controller and that lab tick program, both are great esp with iStat pro and menu meters... I love unix!

anyways, I've very happy with my air it's great! perfect as my fourth computer lol!

How can it be perfect while you had to install all kinds of third party softwares to fix it?

I don't need the third part software to fix it, I'm using it to give me more control. I usually leave the fan on default speed so I can't hear it anyways, but If I want it to cool down faster I can control it, and the lamp software lets me control the brightness with more precision than the default software. Thats why it's perfect!

I just wish my MBA did not have core shutdown which made me return it , but I'll wait for a refresh soon hopefully.

I dont think this core shut down issue effcts them all, I've done some stresst testing and lots of file work and I havent had any core shut downs, but I'm using it on a desk or my lap so that could be part of it.

I was under the impression that your MBA could either be pleasantly warm, or a huge vortex of insufferable heat depending on the amount of thermal gel applied to the processor. So opening your device, lifting the heatsink and cleaning out all the thermal gel that is gobbing up your processor and retaining heat should mostly fix the heat issue.
