New MBA not finding dual monitors

Just got the new 2020 MBA M1. Coming from a 2018 MBA running Mojave. I have 2 x LG 27" external monitors connected via USB-C. One monitor per USB-C port on the MBA.

I had no issues with my 2018 MBA. With this new MBA running Big Sur the MBA will only detect one of the external monitors. I have tried switching the ports and cables and it doesn't matter. Anyone else had this issue?

if it's a hardware limitation, seems unlikely. but who knows? with apple, it will happen if it can... when they get to it.

I recall reading somewhere that someone managed to use dongle to get two or even more monitors running. Google found this easily: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252066923 There are links to various solutions.

Thanks. Complete BS that Apple made the M1 not support multiple monitors.
