In a coffee shop.
Well, comrades, and fellow denizens of this site: Congratulate me and share my joy; after brooding, drooling, pondering, and simply dreaming for over two years, I finally took the plunge and treated myself to a brand new Rev C SSD, which I purchased a few weeks ago in Dublin airport and collected a just over a week ago on my return from the Caucasus where I have been working for the past two years.

As I travel a lot, - and weight is an issue - I have long thought about treating myself to a SSD (Rev C) version of the MBA; indeed, it is something I have mentioned a few times on this forum. Well, now it has been done, and I'm delighted.

Today, by coincidence, (Goddess of Doom or Dreams) my MBP decided to commit suicide - cue sound of the dreaded metronome followed by a brief appearance of a spinning beachball and then a dead screen; when subsequently switched on, a spinning gear and an Apple followed briefly appeared - an oh-so-brief revival followed by the utter blackness of a comatose computer; I have Applecare - and phoned Tech Support, so, tomorrow, I'll have to deliver it to an authorised dealer, who shall, I expect, do what needs to be done, and attend to the needful.

Meanwhile, my lovely MBA was still sitting in its little Apple briefcase, - although I did plan to take it abroad over the coming fortnight, it was untouched until today when I had to use it. However, now it has been opened, unwrapped, and set up, and it is this magnificent machine that I am writing from; the SSD is a dream - speed of response is incredible, as is the screen, - while the weight (lack of) is terrific; anyway, I am looking forward to further use and much travel.

Cheers

nice!!!
& big congrats

I think what you have done here is to eloquently phrase the reason(s) why most of us Air owners made the transition in the first place and your words will remind the rest to return to their 'first love'

a thing of beauty is a joy forever - or at least until the next revision arrives. :D

I know exactly what you are talking about as I myself bought exactly the same machine a few weeks ago. And I'm happy as on day 1.

Keep that MBA away from your partner

If you are married or have a partner, don't make the same mistake as me and set up a user account for them. I now no longer have my travel MBA, as my wife has decreed that as I also have an MBP, it would just be plain selfish of me to have both. I have now ended up buying a WiFi iPad for travel, as the MBP is just too heavy. I hope that iOS4 will end the issue of not being able to log on at hotels that use a sign on screen via Safari, with both user name and password. I assume that as Safari and Preferences would both need to run to get an active connection, it just does not happen on iOS 3.x.

Computer speak suggests that I reply with "LOL", but I think cheerful chuckle, or outright guffaw will suffice. Thanks for the advice, but, believe me, no-one will be let near my MBA apart from myself; I have waited long enough for the pleasure of owning one. Granted, even before being repaired/resuscitated/revived, my MBP has been used by family members, but only when sitting on its desk.

Halledise and ChemGolf, thanks very much for your kind words; I really am enjoying the MBA (and tonight is also my first night on MacRumours in almost two months - work was hectic until very recently; however, the sheer pleasure of finally succumbing to purchasing the MBA has meant a desire (need?) to communicate such to the MR community.

Cheers
