Hello there, just got a new MBP 14 M1 max, and I have terrible audio synch issues when playing the sound over airplay (towards a soundbar).

True in plex, infuse, IINA ...

Didn't have these issues at all with my previous MBP (late 2016 13 touch bar).

Anybody with the same problems ? Any idea how to fix that ?

Maybe it’s your router. I switched my Spectrum internet router for a $130 ASUS mesh one and it’s night and day. 940 down when I used to get less than 300.

It’s an ASUS art-ax55. Some routers don’t allow web access anymore and don’t allow you to have 2.5 and 5ghz bands.

How could it be the router ? It's just airplay to a soundbar.
Plus I didn't change anything in my set up besides the MBP.
Youtube doesn't seem to create any issues, but VLC also does, and really a major one, like more than a second or something.

By the way, I use a Belkin Soundform connect dongle on the sound bar, could this be the issue ?
The delay is really huge, completely unwatchable.

But I was also using the Belkin dongle with the previous MBP, and had no issues at all.

I've recently purchased Sonos Roam as my first AirPlay device and my experience was very bad (play/pause lag, stuttering playback, sound distortion etc.). I used it with MacBook Air M1 and Big Sur. I've tried upgrading Sonos firmware, resetting, tweaking WiFi settings etc. but nothing helped. Before returning the speaker I've tried with old iMac 2017 with Mojave installed and had no issues at all. So my bet that AirPlay is buggy either with M1 or with Big Sur.

Thanks for the info, I have opened a ticket with apple, and it is more or less what the guy told me, and probably more a macOS issue than M1, but if the issue dates from big sur, not sure it will be repaired soon…
Meanwhile I use the Plex web client where there is no issues (apart from the airplay device disappearing once in a while)

It seems AirFoil could be a (temporary) system-wide solution for Big Sur but haven't tried yet.

Updated to the last Monterey version, still the same ...

And I'm surprised that no more people encounter the same issue, watching videos in video players with Airplay output for the sound should be quite common, no ?

Just upgraded to 12.3 and still the same !!

As there is no delay when playing videos in the Web, for instance youtube, there must be a way to fix this!

And I'm really surprised not more people are encountering the issue, really simple use case :
Watching video on the macbook with the sound streamed over airplay, nobody else having this need ? ?‍??

When I want to watch something on my Samsung 55" TV from my 14" MBP, I just cart it over there and hook it up to the HDMI cable. Haven't tried anything over Airplay (I've never enabled wifi on the TV).

But my use case is watching a video on my desktop display (or half watching it, with a web browser next to it) while streaming the sound to a Soundbar over airplay.

For the TV I have an apple tv so no issue to play a file there.
