Just bought a new MBP last week and I noticed off the bat it only has about 92 or so gigs free. I havn't really installed anything yet and was wondering on a 120gig hard drive if that is norma?

At the same time last week I bought my sister a MB with a 120gig hard drive and it too is around 90-95gigs.

Is this normal?

Thanks,

Normal. Hard drives firstly never have their stated capacity. 120 is prob like 111 realistically. Then, the OS and other programs will fill the other space.

A 120gb hard disk has an actual formatted capacity of less than 120gb. Probably on the order of 6 gigs or so on a 120gb disk.

Also.. The operating system and installed applications take space. Likely +/- 5-8gb on a new machine.

Remove iWork Trial, MS Office Trial, Aperture trial, translations, etc.
