i was just wondering if the four gigs of ram is worth it. I am going to be running photoshop and final cut, but i just wanted to make sure that the MBP could even recognize all four gigs.

so with that said, should i just do the upgrade through apple or should i buy my own memory? since the upgrade through apple is and extra 750 i think. how much cheaper can i get it on my own and does it void the warranty?

Never ever ever get RAM from Apple. They overcharge worse then any company in the industry.
Oh no they don't -- have you looked at HP/Compaq/Digital server RAM or Cisco RAM or Xerox laser printer RAM? We're not talking 200% over market, we're talking more like 600%
also, how hard is it to replace the RAM on your own?
Just bought 2GB from OWC. So far it's working like a charm. Just remember to keep at least one of the original cards in case you ever have to send the MBP in to AppleCare.
is the 7200 rpm worth it?
Simple, except when Apple has overtightened the screws. Even using a precisions 00 screwdriver, I had issues removing one of the screws to put in my 4 gbs. Make sure you have the right tools -- if you use the wrong screw driver the crappy screws will strip.
