With all the issues I've read with the new MBP, would it be worth while to get one or to search and get a 2.33ghz? It looks as if Apple hasn't released optimized video drivers for the Nvidia card.

1. All you will ever normally read on forums is about the issues.... people rarely post on a forum to say how great their machine is. Out of the hundreds of thousands apple will have sold do you think what you have read here represents that many units?

2. You also get what i term n00bs with the greatest of respect, that have gone round and read about issues and post making it sound like these things are all duds.

3. you also get people that have no idea about engineering, physics or probably lack a massive amount of common sense that could find a fault with a 100% flawless macbook pro.... these people like to post here and tell people they have problems when really their issues are minor......effectively, if not intentionally scare mongoring.

Get one. If there is an issue swap it. No point buying an old machine because of a large amount of troll posts (yes i know there are genuine issus) you have read. At the end of the day these issues represent a small number of units in the grand scheme of things and all come from the same producion line/facotry as the old ones.

Just get one. You'll only hear about problematic MBPs, the vast majority are fine. If you have problems, you also have the right to return it.

There are many machines out there that are perfect. Don't be alarmed by the volume of posts asking about faults in the new SR MBPs. I think, first, that you'll find a good deal of posts also commenting on people's good experiences (mine included, perfect 2.4GHz 15" here) and I also think, second, that you will agree an internet forum is a likely place to find many people posting in hopes of finding solutions to their problems.

Go for it! I think you'll definitely be satisfied with the new MacBook Pros. Unless of course you end up getting a dud, in which case just return it and hope you have better luck with the second!

I agree with Eenu and SouthernBoy. I came to these forums to research the options for purchasing a new MBP. There are tons of misleading information, but there are some genuine advice as well. You just have to learn to sort thru the dirt to get the gold.

I checked each and every thread which mentioned a problem with the MBP, and was myself scared to buy one. But now that I have received it, my machine is flawless- nothing wrong with it as yet.

Most of the people who post here are people with issues on the MBP. The people who do not have problems with their machines are too busy having fun with it to post here.

But I do know for a fact that majority of the MBPs manufactured are without defect. Apple is a great company, and definitely maintains a QC. As with all other products, there is bound to be a couple of duds in the lot.

That being said, I would suggest that you go ahead and buy the latest machine that you can afford. Macintoshes are great machines!

Oh, and when you get it...don't purposefully go looking for tiny flaws. Enjoy the machine. If there is anything wrong with it, you'll discover it just through normal use of the machine and can return it for a better one. Believe me, the worst killjoy is constantly worrying about finding a tiny fault.

I don't know anything about these unoptimised video drivers for the Nvidia card or where you heard that from

As other people have said, most people post the negatives rather than the positives and there are always going to be a few teething problems when new products are released. I usually roll my eyes at the negative posts people make but having been victim to two less-than-perfect MBPs I can now empathise and have made a few 'negative' posts about my own experience. However I have every confidence that the third will be a perfect machine!

There are also a large number of people posting on here who have perfect MBPs so don't let the issues some of us have had put you off buying. If it's a dud you'll notice it straight away, no need to go looking for problems. And if it's a dud they'll replace it for you.

As for the 2.33GHz one, that could be an option if you could find one for a reasonable price. You'll be missing out on the brighter LED display, the new graphics card and faster processor though...

Please also keep in mind that Apple seems to attract a somewhat higher percentage of customers who are perhaps slightly more obsessive-compulsive about their computers. This is noted with due respect, because I'm one such buyer---and I'm sure it's easier to be so, given the cost of the machines. Minor flaws in a $2000 machine are much more irritating than similar flaws in a $450 machine.

This, taken with the disproportionate number of complaints to be found on ANY discussion forum, gives a false impression of the overall product quality.

How much of a performance boost is there between the 2.33ghz and the 2.4ghz? The laptop is used for everything from getting on the internet, email, photos, and some gaming (wow, C&C, might try LOTRO).

i too was thinking about getting a used 2.33 mbp, not because of the purported flaws with new ones, but rather because i was debating the value of a .07 boost in clock speed. eventually i decided on a new one. what sold me on it was being able to boost the ram to 4 gb, which is important to me because i do a lot ram-intensive audio editing. the led screen and better video card are a nice bonus but the 4 gb is what hooked me in the end.

If you buy online and have a defect, do you have to deal with Apple over the phone or can you go to the store and get a swapped?

I honestly think that the new ones are equal in terms of quality The old ones had lots of issues too - it's not the model, it's the components and assembly. You can get a good one, or you can get a bad one (are you lucky or unlucky?) with either model.

I'd say go for it and hope for the best. If there's a big problem, Apple will fix it.
