I have had my MBP for about a month and a half now and the other night I was using my MBP and turned it off. When I turned it back on in the morning, 30gb of my harddrive had dissappeared, it is a 160gb HD and now it claims I only have a total of 120gb on my HD.
That's the first problem, second I can no longer install any applications onto my MBP, it denies me when trying to install any app saying my Macintosh HD does not meet the requirements to install the application.
Also after having all of these problem, I had made a backup image using Netrestore awhile back and when trying to pump my image back to my MBP from the server I have at work, I kept getting kernal panics. Then I tried installing from an external HD using Firewire and my MBP wouldn't even recognize it. Also just to throw this in for another problem I am having, my fan rpms jump up to 5000rpms randomly, even when I am not even doing anything on it.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should do? Could my motherboard be faulty? I've had it under 90 days so I believe I still have the applecare, should I try to get my MBP replaced?

I'm new to this as this is my first Mac so any info would be helpful, Thank you in advanced.

Contact AppleCare (or an Apple Store) as soon as you can. It's obviously faulty and should be repaired.

BTW, you have 90 days of free phone help and a full year of warranty if something like this is happening. If you purchase the AppleCare package, they extend both to three years from your purchase date... something I would consider for a portable.

Thank you guys for the reply. To the above post, I have not upgraded anything, it is my base system I bought 2.2ghz SR 2gb 160gb HD.

I do have an apple store about 5 minutes from my house so I will be going there today to see if they will take care of it. Thanks again for the replys.
