new MBP problems

Hi,
two days ago i bought a new mbp however i noticed two problems so far:
-when you close it, the lcd is uneven ... the space between it and the rest of the body is bigger in one side than it is on the other
-the trackpad is not even, if you move your finger along the border of the trackpad you'll notice that at some points its higher than the edge.

I called apple and the guy said that they could repair it and that he'd send a box, however i told him i'll think about it and i might wait.

would it be possible to get the mbp replaced ... if so how...

what would you guys suggest doing

note that i bought it from an apple authorized retailer and not from an apple store

You're within 14 days of purchase. I am pretty sure yo can just say you want your money back. However the LCD things is fairly normal. It has been happening since the PowerBooks.

My MBP has the same "defects". I wouldn't worry about it much.
Does it affect the performance on your notebook??

Mine has the uneven lid also. It has been bugging me for the last month because I can't remember if it has always been that way or because of something I have done. I tend to take it out of my bag by grabbing the middle where it latches. It sits flat right where the latches are and then has a gap on both sides where it does not close flush. I guess it is a common problem. I have had the laptop since 11/06 and don't really want to wait for it to get repaired. Does not seem to affect anything else at this time.

It's common, but hardly 'normal'. I mean, the macbook pro was not designed to have a warped display bezel, was it? Just because the problem is widespread, doesn't mean it's normal. I've had several that ware warped and several that are not. I suspect it has more to do with the latch mechanism and the springs of the hinges than with the actual display being bent. If the hinges are too tight, the display pull upward when it's closed and since there is not latch on the corners, they naturally pull away from the main unit. I checked the displays with and they all seemed straight to me. Another issue might be that the hinges are not totally level on both sides, so that one side is ever so slightly higher.


In any case, if it's a lot, have it replaced. If it's tiny, a new one probably won't change the defect. The next design will be different, I'm sure.
