I am a very experienced windows user having built a variety of pcs in the past, etc.

To clarify up front, I received the computer from our school's IT department preloaded with Vista through bootcamp. We were only getting MBPs so please don't bother with the 'if you wanted to use vista just get a pc' comments.

I am enjoying the new computer but have some questions/concerns.

1. Tap click does not work. I enabled it in osx, but it doesn't work in vista. Is there any way to get this to work? The scroll does work however.

Looks like this will just have to wait until it gets enabled by Apple

2. How to get the latest version of bootcamp with latest updates and stuff? A friend recommended downloading in osx and then copying to flash drive and running in vista...where do I do that in osx and what do I need to copy? Is it an exe?

3. The built in cam. My device manager shows that there is a driver ready for this camera, but how do I use it? Do I need different software?

4. How do I remap the keys? I want to swap the fn and ctrl keys and also swap the alt/option and command key. I cant find anything in control panel>keyboard

I used autohotkey to remap everything but the fn key, since that isnt recongnized by the program

5. Is there any way to use the 3d version of alt + tab? I know its windows key + tab, and since my command key is like a windows key, do I need to activate something?
Turned on aero, works great

6. What is the procedure to copy the drivers set from the leopard cd to a file that can be put separately on a flash drive.

7. Will mac updates (for leopard, bootcamp, etc) automatically prompt when new ones are ready in vista - I will be using vista 24/7.

8. Do the drivers for vista on the leopard cd work if I wanted to install XP?

9. When I go to Computer>C: - I don't see where the mac OS folder is? What should I be looking for, so I know what not to mess with ;)?

MacDrive program, I got it, will install when I get a chance

10. I am trying to transfer my settings from firefox to this computer. I went to Users\Username but can't find the AppData folder, I can only find Documents, Pics, etc.

11. Has there been a fix for Vista's time issue? I had vista basic when it was first released on a different computer and the clock would always lose minutes a day. I had to change the settings in the registry so it would update every 15 mins. I did not see this problem when I installed XP on that machine. I noticed with this 'latest' version of vista the same problem. What is the fix?

From what I've read it can sort of be dealt with by manually setting the time and disabling the internet time sync. Appears to be a problem about dual booting mac osx and vista, like another poster mentioned

12. Where is the end/page up/page down keys on the keyboard?
fn + arrow keys

I've edited and added what I've learned and answered.

Under a rock.
Bootcamp drivers are on the Leopard CD. They work with Windows XP (SP2 ONLY) and Windows Vista.

OS X will not update unless you boot it and go to :apple: > Software Update...

The C:\ drive is a partition, not the hard drive. In all likelihood it's probably /dev/disk0s5, whereas your base OS X partition is disk0s3. Windows doesn't recognize or write to HFS+, so unless you install MacDrive, the other part of the hard drive will be inaccessible to you.

The application data folder is a hidden folder. Enable viewing hidden and system folders in Explorer, and it should work.

Enjoy your new Mac, and I hope you like Vista, but you should try OS X. It is designed for the hardware and all, and if you try it and decide it's not for you well at least you've learned something.

Please don't think I'm trying to convert you, though. I don't have a single problem with Windows. I don't use it as often as I used to, as I mostly bring my laptop to work nowadays instead of using the Dell boxes they have there, but I don't cringe every time I use it. I don't think OS X is for everyone (I recommend Windows and Linux for several people), but I do think it's unfair to not even try it. I myself used to virtualize over 25 different OSes, on my home computer, to see which one I liked the best. I was tired of the stable but boring XP, so I virtualized the three newest OSes, Leopard, Vista, and Hardy. Interestingly I found Ubuntu to be the least natural of the three, whereas Leopard and Vista were clean, attractive, and while more taxing on the processor, simply better. In the end I chose Leopard as my main OS, but I would not mind using Vista on a day to day basis.

Again, I hope this helps, and good luck with your new piece of beautiful hardware.

Thank you for the response. I will go through your suggestions and try them out in detail tomorrow. I actually am getting leopard training tomorrow, so I will at least know the basics.

And I want to add that I figured out how to do the whole fancy alt tab thing with the windows, I just had to enable aero.

I have tried sharpkeys and keytweak, but neither recognize two of the keys I want to remap (my fn key and the alt/option key). Any other suggestions here?

Try AutoHotkey.... its free and works well!

http://www.autohotkey.com/

P.S.: You'll need MacDrive for your Win to recognize Mac OS X Partition!

Anything else?

Is MacDrive a program? Where do I get it.

I was actually trying autohotkey this morning, and it wasn't able to recognize when I pressd the fn and option keys. Command/windows and ctrl keys were recognized. Would anybody happen to know what the key number for those keys?

How do you guys do end (like end of line), page up and down on your mac keyboards?

Any idea about tap click?

Auto hot key is great. I've reassigned my right command key to be a left click key. I reassigned my left command to alt and alt to left command. (I am so used to hitting alt + s when posting in forums). When I do ctrl + alt + dlt it doesnt work, so I just do ctrl + (new command/windows aka physical alt key) + delete like it would have worked before reassignment.

Q1: Does anyone know how to get a key code for the fn key? I want to swap control and fn but pressing fn doesnt registere under autohotkey...

From what I've read up, tap click just doesn't work period. Hopefully a later update of bootcamp will restore that functionality.

Q2: I have apple software update program here on vista, I assume that will update bootcamp if an update comes out? It has so far gotten the latest itunes and one other update. If this does indeed get the latest bootcamp update, will it then automatically install the new drivers if any are present?

Cant answer 1,bootcamp2.1 is available at present if you haven't installed that yet, the software updater in windows works the same as in OS X so you will have to run the updater manually & install any updates if they are available

Do you have the Aero theme active? It works on mine with cmd+tab.

In Vista (or XP), your command keys will work as Windows Keys! So pressing cmd will bring up the start menu, cmd+tab will cycle through open windows, cmd+L will lock your computer!
