So my MBP arrived today and I'm ecstatic!
Quick question though, I wasn't planning on installing anything until Leopard arrives but I got a popup with a bunch of software updates.. Is there any point of installing them or should I just wait for Leopard?

Any installed software in Tiger will remain unaffected after Leopard upgrade.

If you aren't going to use the computer until you install Leopard, then wait until you get Leopard and do a fresh install. After that run software update and all will be fine. Also remember that you will have to reinstall iLife/iWork as it is not part of Leopard.
