ok so i just ordered a 15" 2.4ghz 2gig
with 200gb hd @ 4200 rpm

personally i dont think it will make much of a difference. wont be doing anything too intensive (fair bit of adobe suite, 3d modelling, others associated) so the extra 40gb will be handy. i also think that the average mac user wont be pushing their mbp's to the limits constantly.

anybody else done the same? (i havent seen too many say they have this option - if you havent, why not?)

thoughts?

Not.
Why? Because I can't feel a difference between 7200 rpm and 5400 rpm (despite barefeats saying it's about 30% faster). Yet I can literally feel a system stuttering with a 4200 rpm drive during random reads at half capacity. The difference is probably smaller if the drive is new, but having had experience with a year old 4200 rpm drive, i'm never going back there again.
