Dear all,
I have received a new MBP 17" and the case does not close perfectly  . It has a gap of 2mm in the left side and 1 mm in the right. The screeen is perfectly flat, it is the case of the computer which is 1mm taller on the right and center of the computer. I have added some pics here,

Do you guys have the same problem / deffect / error? Do you think I should return it? I don't know if this can be a prolem. On the other hand it is a perfect laptop! :D

It's common - I advise you not to look too closely at the backlighting either  (If you are a masochist, try a mid gray desktop)

If you are unhappy with it then I suggest to return it. Let me send you the <cough>updated address for my house....I mean return center. That way you can received a brand new (as of 2001) TiBook!

Seriously though, thats not a huge gap. I don't think it will hurt anything.
Congrats on the new lappy!:D

Try this from one of my previous posts:

I had a problem with an uneven gap on my 17" C2D MBP. The problem occurred because I was gently closing the screen with one hand. I now close the screen firmly with two hands (No, I don't slam it). I place each hand with the forefinger roughly in line with its corresponding latch slot on top of the screen. I then firmly swing the screen down until it latches. The result: even gaps. I also found that the computer now consistently wakes from sleep when I open it.

This works for me because the left and right latch don't evenly engage when the screen is gently closed with one hand. A two-hand firm close makes sure both left and right latches completely engage.

I saw the same problem on a couple of other MBP's (15" and 17") in town, so I guess it's a design flaw. While it doesn't look that nice, I wouldn't bother.

I have the exact same gap on my new MBP.. it sort of annoys me, but I'm not too worried about it (yet)

I think it is a great laptop. I don't really think it is a problem but I would like to see if most of these laptops have this shape. If most of them are like mine I will never be worried about it. Pn the other hand, I will not return it (I am in love) . Does your 17" close like my lovely laptop?

I have not seen a 17 inch that closes WELL...

The biggest problem... is when the gap/opening gets caught on something and tries to TEAR the $4000 machine open...

This happens occasionaly with the callouses on my hand that get caught in the gap as I take the C2D out or put it away in my back pack.... serious

Design flaw...

JOBS please fix..

LIKE THE SUN, I never stare directly at any flaws on my LOVELY MBP....

thank you

I have tried two-hand close. The case, on the left side, is 1mm thinner than the right. It is not the screen o bad close, it is the case. I have measured it and it is 1mm thicker on the right.

I have seen 3 MBP and no one closed perfectly. Yours looks perfect.
